My first instinct was a preserved deep sea angler type fish. The texture reminds me of the ones I saw at the museum last year.
But the hair like follicles I think militate against that as fish don’t have hair do they?
A wet nose of some animal?
If I had to guess – and I guess I have to – I’d say the wing root of a Drosophila fruit fly.
It does look like something very small magnified. What looked like hairs at first seem more liquidlike upon further inspection. I’d wager for something smaller even than drosophila.
